NewsForge: helping a regional newspaper publish breaking news online as fast as its reporters can file it
A regional-language newspaper with district reporters published its print edition well but lagged online: stories were emailed, retyped and posted hours late on a slow website. We built NewsForge: a mobile filing app for reporters, a newsroom CMS with editorial workflow, AI-assisted headlines and tagging, a fast news website and app, and subscriptions.

Breaking news, hours late
NewsForge's digital editor had watched national sites publish local stories first — stories the paper's own district reporters had filed hours earlier by email. Reporters emailed text and photos, the desk retyped and formatted them, and the old website slowed to a crawl whenever traffic spiked.
“We have reporters in every district. Online, it looks like we have none.”
A day in the newsroom
We sat with the desk and travelled with a district reporter. Reporters wrote on phones, often in Hindi with voice typing, and struggled to attach photos over weak connections. The desk juggled email, a print layout tool and a website CMS that did not talk to each other.
- Stories filed by email and retyped
- Photos failing on weak connections
- No shared workflow between desk and web
- A website that slowed under traffic

File once, publish everywhere
Reporters file directly from a mobile app that works offline and uploads photos in the background. The newsroom CMS brings every story into one editorial workflow, with AI suggestions for headlines, summaries and tags in Hindi that editors accept or change. Approved stories publish to a fast, edge-cached website and the reader app, with push alerts for breaking news.
