GoldLedger: giving a family jewellery chain piece-level control over stock worth crores
A three-generation jewellery chain tracked every piece by weight in ledgers and on tags written by hand. Stock counts took days, and gold schemes were managed in notebooks. We built GoldLedger: RFID-tagged piece-level inventory, live gold-rate pricing, billing with making charges and old-gold exchange, customer savings schemes and a showroom app for staff.

Three days to count the stock
GoldLedger's managing director described the quarterly stock count: showrooms closed, every piece weighed and ticked off against ledgers, and discrepancies that took days to explain. Pricing depended on the day's gold rate, calculated by hand on each bill. Customer savings schemes — monthly instalments towards a future purchase — were tracked in notebooks.
“We know every customer's family. We didn't know exactly what was in our own showcase.”
Behind the counter
We spent time in showrooms during a busy wedding season. Staff juggled weights, rates, making charges, old-gold exchange and discounts on calculators. Customers waited while bills were written and rechecked. Moving pieces between showrooms was recorded on paper chits.
- Piece-level tracking instead of weight totals
- Prices calculated from the live gold rate
- Old-gold exchange valued consistently
- Savings schemes managed digitally

Every piece has an identity
Each piece gets an RFID tag linked to its photo, weights, purity and cost. Stock counts become a walk past the showcases with a reader, taking minutes instead of days. Bills pull weights from the tag and the live gold rate, apply making charges and handle old-gold exchange with weighing-scale integration.
Customers enrol in savings schemes through an app, pay instalments by UPI and see their balance grow towards their purchase.

Barcodes or RFID?
- Barcode tags
- RFID tags
Our call: RFID tags. RFID allowed whole showcases to be counted in minutes without handling each piece.
Manual or live gold rates?
- Rate entered daily
- Live bullion rate feed with manager override
Our call: Live bullion rate feed with manager override. Live rates kept prices accurate through the day, with control for the manager.
Cloud or on-premise?
- Cloud only
- On-premise showroom servers with cloud sync
Our call: On-premise showroom servers with cloud sync. Billing had to work during internet outages, while owners needed a group view.
