Telemedicine App Features: What Patients, Doctors and Clinics Need
Video consultation, e-prescriptions, records, payments and ABDM. A telemedicine app feature list built around India's Telemedicine Practice Guidelines.

A telemedicine app is a clinic with the waiting room, consultation room, pharmacy counter and records room on a phone. In India it also has to follow the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines, which set rules on consent, identification, prescribing and record keeping.
Patient app
Patients are often unwell, anxious or booking for a parent. Keep the path from opening the app to seeing a doctor short.
Doctor app
Doctors will give the app a few consultations to prove itself. The prescription screen decides whether they stay.
What the guidelines require in the product
The Telemedicine Practice Guidelines translate into specific product behaviour. Build these as rules in the software rather than relying on each doctor to remember them.
Encode the prescribing rules in the drug list so the software, not the doctor, blocks what is not allowed.
Clinic and admin console
A clinic or hospital running telemedicine needs control over doctors, fees and quality.
Records, ABDM and privacy
Health data is sensitive personal data in practice even where the law uses a single category. Encrypt it in transit and at rest, log every access, and keep consent records. ABDM integration lets patients link consultations to their ABHA and share records with other providers on their consent.
Where AI helps
Useful, low-risk additions: a symptom intake that prepares a summary for the doctor, consultation notes drafted from the conversation for the doctor to approve, and translation between doctor and patient. Avoid automated diagnosis; the guidelines place clinical judgement with the registered practitioner.
